Dice Mechanics Guide
How Dice Work in Dicero
Dice are the core decision layer in Dicero. Each run is shaped by what you roll, which dice types appear, and whether your current upgrade path can turn those rolls into reliable damage.
This guide is for players who are asking questions like “why did this build stop working?”, “which dice type should I lean into?”, or “should I force a combo if the run is already offering something else?”
Dice Types
There are four main dice types:
- Sword - Single target damage, good for bosses
- Hammer - AOE (area) damage, good for clearing mobs
- Staff - Ranged attacks, niche use
- Poison - Damage over time (DOT)
Getting Dice and Reading a Run
Each turn, the game gives you random dice. What you get depends on:
- Your current upgrades
- The mission level
- RNG
There is no reliable way to guarantee a perfect setup every turn, so the important skill is reading the run. If upgrades are pushing you toward single-target damage, Sword-style choices usually make more sense. If the stage is full of smaller enemies, Hammer-style area damage may be easier to stabilize.
Common Mistakes
- Chasing one exact dice type even when the run is offering a better route
- Switching builds after only a few failed attempts
- Ignoring survivability upgrades because damage looks more exciting
- Treating Poison, Sword, and Hammer as universal answers instead of tools for different encounter types
Player Tips
- “Switch to Sword for single-target bosses”
- “Use Hammer for AOE stages”
- “Don’t force a specific build early”
